We didn't have any lecture this week.

Design Layout Systems (Week 1 -Week 4 )
02.04.19 - 09.04.19 (Week 1 - Week 2)
We were told to sketch two sketches for each of the typographic systems. The content of the design was given by Mr. Vinod:
09.04.19 - 16.04.19 (Week 2 - Week 3)
After sketching, we started to digitalize it in Adobe InDesign with a chosen typeface (I chose ITC Garamond Std). At first, I tried to go with my sketches but it's kind of hard to make it exactly the same so I changed some of it.
But then, I heard Mr. Vinod feedback to some of my classmates about modular system, he said that we needed to use grid and divide it equally, and when Mr. Shamsul passed me, he said that my the left side of the bilateral one is kind of hard to read, so I started to change it. I also added another non-element things.
I tried to ask Mr. Vinod for his feedback, after that I changed it again.

Type & Play (Part 1): Finding Type (Week 3 - Week 4)
16.04.19 - 23.04.19 (Week 3 - Week 4)
We had our briefing on our next exercises. We had to use a photo either a photo that we took by ourselves or from the online. I chose an image of the ceiling of UNIMAS's building.

30.04.19 (Week 5)
We had to choose a photo from the internet either is man-made objects, buildings, and so on. After choosing it, we had to write about 4-5 words relating to it.
So, I chose Yuzuru Hanyu's photo for this exercise ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

For the first attempt, I tried to use the words which were connected with the event that he went to. I chose "Hope & Legacy" because it was his program title.

FEEDBACK
09.04.19 (Week 2)
General feedback: Mr. Vinod said that try to engage with the audience. If there are points or explanation, use visual points to seperate it with the next explanation. Then, don't afraid to ask any questions if we are still confused or doubt about it. After that, always present the names on the presentaion. And he said that the informational hierarchy is always important. He also told us to not to use the non-element things and colors first when we sketch it out. When we started to digitalise it, just use one typeface and stick to it.
Specific feedback: I was told that I couldn't write on the axial line, and I could use more than a line on the bilateral system.
16.04.19 (Week 3)
General feedback: Mr. Vinod told us to use 8-12 pt for the body text and he went over some shortcut keys and also about leading, kerning and spacing too. He also reminded us about the color and the non-element things.
Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said that my information texts were too big, and maybe I could change the typeface for the information. Some of my texts were too sticky so I needed to make some space between the words. He reminded me that "The Design School" and "Taylor's University" were together, so I couldn't separate it. He also said I could make the random system more random, and I needed to learn more how to use the typeface, font sizing, spacing.
23.04.19 (Week 4)
Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said there was unbalance for the axial system (the right one). Because I had white space at the below left and the box at the upper right which made it unbalance. He also told me to move the information text to the axial line. And (for Type & Play Part 1) I also needed to dissect it more, not just making it by the outline. And Mr. Shamsul said I hadn't uploaded the thumbnail and PDF file into my blog.
30.04.19 (Week 5)
Specific feedback: Mr. Shamsul said that I should have a consistent stroke for each letters and if I wanted to still use the serif, I could also use it for another letters, not only one. And for the next exercise, he said that the words that I used didn't represent the photos, so maybe I could search some words online which were related to the photo and used it.
Online feedback (Mr. Vinod): (for the first part) the overall refinement is fine but I’m not sure what the original dissection came from. One thing I find a little awkward is how did the strokes (at the top) become angular in the refining process? It did not seem to evolve from the original form. (While for the second part) If you notice the guy skating on the ice creates these ice particles, so perhaps the letter should have these dotted texture in them and be closer toward his legs. Also it is hard to know what the word is. You may have to use colour to create differentiation from the black and white image.
Online feedback 2 (Mr. Vinod): (for the first part) it needs more consistency in shape and line. (As for the second part) nice.
07.05.19 (Week 6)
Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said that the arrangement of the words of the second attempt is nice enough and as the latest attempt, the word on below only made it quiet stick on below.

REFLECTIONS
EXPERIENCES
02.04.19 (Week 1)
I tried to spend a day for sketching it but it's kind of hard because no matter what I sketched, it looked simple and too common.
09.04.19 (Week 2)
When I tried to digitalise it, I couldn't really keep the same layout and its confusing.
16.04.19 (Week 3)
I didn't really notice that by using other typefaces, the words can be expressed differently.
23.04.19 (Week 4)
I thought it kinds of easy to line the things that we saw as letters? But it turned out.. not at all.
30.04.19 (Week 5)
After searching for some pictures, I felt that every pictures represented different things.
OBSERVATIONS
02.04.19 (Week 1)
Most websites that I found said that hierarchy of the information is important because it made itself easy to read more.
09.04.19 (Week 2)
Everyone had different designs and somehow it inspired me to change mine more.
16.04.19 (Week 3)
Everyone designs were so cool that even made me want to change mine.
23.04.19 (Week 4)
People had different taste and preference when the topics were likely free for them to use and choose (I meant like the pictures for our exercises).
30.04.19 (Week 5)
Inspirations and mistakes can be found everyday as long as we observed it carefully.
FINDINGS
02.04.19 (Week 1)
I found out that even with a simple line, people especially designers could make it into an incredible thing, amazed and inspired people too.
09.04.19 (Week 2)
I found out that some systems have similar things from one to the other.
16.04.19 (Week 3)
I found that we needed to divide it (for modular system) equally, and I didn't know is it what I felt or the lecturers kind of changed?
23.04.19 (Week 4)
Many people used buildings and organic things such as plants as the image for text and play part 1.
30.04.19 (Week 5)
Some things that were on the images could also give us some inspiration on it.

An effective design must organize the information so the reader can know where to look and what'll they find there. We can organize it by hierarchy and grouping.
Hierarchy indicates the order of importance, a hierarchy is developed by giving the most important and general information the most contrast, either it was scale, color, direction, and so on. While grouping means to bring related items together so they become one, not a separate information. It was set apart by kernings.
