INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL PROJECT

Design, Exploration, and Application (Week 9 - Week 13)

At first, Mr. Vinod briefed us on what should we do for our final project, he also provided some example either from upperclassmen or other people.

Here are some ideas that I had:

Fig 1.1.2 Ideas

After I told Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul about my idea (idea no. 1), I started with some sketching for the alphabets.

FIg 1.3.3 Sketches (S-Z)

After receiving some feedback from Mr. Vinod, I tried to change the design and focus more into square.

At first, I thought I was going to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. But then, Mr. Shamsul suggested me to use Adobe Animate rather than Adobe After Effects. And for this kind of thing, using Adobe Illustrator is more easier than Adobe Photoshop.

After design it one by one in an artboard, I moved into Adobe Animate.

After that, I tried to show it to the lecturers and I got feedback from them. Actually, this project took a long time for me to do because I only could save half of the file due to memory full and I needed to redo the rest.

I also tried to change some animation but at the end I confused by itself.

But after I edited it, I feel like it so plain and not entertaining enough for children to learn so I added a slow alphabet song in it.

FEEDBACK

18.06.19 (Week 12)

Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said that the design did not look relatable to what I saw them, and he advised that unless I do half of the square.

25.06.19 (Week 13)

Specific feedback: Both of the lecturers are okay with my first attempt but then Mr. Vinod suggested me to use different color for each stroke so the kids can learn it easier.

REFLECTIONS

EXPERIENCES

04.06.19 (Week 10)

At first I already had a bunch of ideas inside of my mind but it kinds of hard to explain it and it also made me confused due to the problem and the solution.

11.06.19 (Week 11)

I tried my best to think about another things that I can use for this project.

18.06.19 (Week 12)

I'm nervous to show my ideas to them because I'm late showing it and I'm not confident enough with my ideas.

25.06.19 (Week 13)

Staying awake just because I had a hard time to animate it plus I ran out of memory so I couldn't save all of it, only could export it.

OBSERVATIONS

04.06.19 (Week 10)

I felt that nearly everyone was confused and having a hard time to find an idea with problem and solution in it.

11.06.19 (Week 11)

Nearly everyone had started to do the things for final project and somehow it made me nervous because I still thinking of it.

18.06.19 (Week 12)

Everyone process' amazed me.

25.06.19 (Week 13)

I tried to ask people opinion about my animation and they kindly helped me observe it.

FINDINGS

04.06.19 (Week 10)

People or designers out there surely had creative ideas to create and experiment with type.

11.06.19 (Week 11)

Nearly all of us are thinking using Chinese words or strokes for this final.

18.06.19 (Week 12)

Using different colors also really help when it came to identify something from the others.

25.06.19 (Week 13)

Everyone still struggled and had a hard time for this final.

FURTHER READINGS

Design Elements: A Graphic Manual: Understanding The Rules and Knowing When to Break Them by Timothy Samara.

Positioning Strategies (pg. 230)

We need to consider the location of the type first which is relative to the image and the attributes of it. If there is a rectangle image with a type within it, then the type itself becomes part of the image. The relationship between those two are actually depends on the position and the correspondence between the elements and the images. If the type is crossed over the image then it will become both part of the image and the elements.

Integrating Images with a Grid (pg. 233)

People usually use a grid structure to organize the pictures or any texts by bringing it to the horizontal and vertical axes which were created by columns and rows. A designer can choose either column grid without modules or a modular column grid which was to provide locations and the proportions for images. Even though we use grid to organize the images, it might stifle the visual potential.
